"Mabel Strickland" - known as the "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" - was a Champion Rodeo Star of the 1920s'. Mabel bested many cowboys in rodeo events, including bronc riding, steer roping, and trick and Roman style riding. She is the only Cowgirl ever featured on the cover of the Cheyenne Frontier Days program. In 1923 she won the title of "Ladies Saddle Bronc Champion. In 1925, at the Frontier Days, she roped and tied a steer in 24 seconds, breaking the world record. Later at the Pendleton Rodeo she was timed in 18 seconds. In the 1930s' Mabel went to Hollywood to perform in the movies as a stunt rider. She has been inducted into many "Halls of Fame" including the "ProRodeo Cowboys Hall of Fame.
